Hear us Out: an update from Dinos Aristidou, Artistic Director

We entered this strange and challenging time just at the point in the project when we were about to starting preparing our 6 satellite performances, ready to be presented in libraries, museums, community and residential settings. These satellites were performances of real life stories together with presentations of creative writing that had been written during workshops in response to these stories. This was also in preparation for our final live theatre piece which was going to be staged and shown in September.

It was immediately clear that neither the satellites nor the final performance could be prepared or presented in front of a live audience. It was decided that we would therefore try and develop the satellites as audio and film performances and that the final piece of theatre would be presented digitally.

We contacted the performers, writers and those who had expressed an interest in performing to see if they were still interested in taking part either by phone or online. The response was overwhelming, so a huge thank you to all those who are currently working on the satellites and who have recorded themselves reading or performing their creative responses.

We now have 21 audio recordings of creative writing and 18 performers in rehearsal online working on the real life stories. These will be shared through our website in the coming weeks.

Thanks also to those of you who responded to the ‘Create at home’ tasks related to the project. We will also be sharing some of the wonderful writing that has come about through those.

Stay safe and stay creative.
