ABOUT US

NWS is a development agency for writers living and working in south east England.

We exist to support and encourage new, emerging and established writers across diverse communities and to cultivate radical thinking.

Our work includes an ongoing programme of courses, masterclasses and mentoring to help writers develop skills and careers, alongside a range of participation activities that nurture new writing and engage audiences.

We strive to inspire both writers and readers to take risks and find joy in writing and literature.

 OUR VISION

We envision a vibrant ecology of writers in the south east – where access to books, writing and literature is open to all

 OUR MISSION

We champion underrepresented voices: writers who experience racism in our society, disabled writers, writers from low socio-economic or working class backgrounds, and others who are too often excluded by the publishing and literary world.

We are conscious of the structural inequalities that many writers face, and we are dedicated to countering these inequalities through our work.

We believe in decolonising the literary and arts sector, and we are an actively anti-racist organisation. Our work is often an intervention into the literary status quo.
