About Covert

Covert literary magazine was founded in 2020 to publish original fiction, poetry and art work by writers and artists of colour. The first edition was published in winter 2020 and invited writers and artists to imagine what the future holds, whether inspired by science fiction, environment emergency, changing political borders or new technologies and innovations.

About Shifting the Gaze

Shifting the Gaze is a project instigated by Writing Our Legacy with South Downs National Park Authority and in association with New Writing South.

Shifting the Gaze offers 15 bursaries of £500 to Black, Asian or ethnically diverse writers in Sussex, Hampshire or the wider South East to research and develop new writing or project work with a focus on the landscape of South Downs National Park. The project’s aim is to raise awareness of the diverse creative talent in the South East region and help other people of colour find a meaningful connection to South Downs and the outdoors, for personal enjoyment, health reasons or through their own literature practice.
