Inspiring ideas, developing writers, creating connections

Welcome to Writers at Work

Writers stimulate the imagination, provoke discussion and inspire a more creative use of language. Inviting a writer into your workplace can be fun, productive and prove a real asset for your company.

New Writing South has ten years of experience working with professional writers throughout the south east, and in that time it is fair to say we’ve become somewhat of an expert at what does and doesn’t work when it comes to writing.

We do no want to tell you how to run your business, that’s your job. What we can offer is some time away from your desk to rediscover your creative voice, challenge the way you communicate at work and feel connected with language again. We’re not suggesting you move away from your core messages or try and sex-up your annual report, what we are offering is the tools to feel confident to move away from the jargon and start enjoying using words again.

Writers at Work is a shared experience and may bring other benefits. It could strengthen work relationships, help team building, inspire new ways of working and help humanise your workplace in a meaningful and lasting way. At the very least it will spark something different to talk about with your colleagues and clients.

How it works

Step 1: Consultation
We will visit you to discuss with you what you would like to get out of your session or sessions with a creative writer.

Step 2: Planning
Next we draw up a proposed programme, specifically created for your needs.

Step 3: Matching a writer
Our team includes playwrights, TV and radio writers, journalists, stand-up comedians, motivational writers, novelists, poets and crime authors so we are sure to be able to find the best creative writers for your company.

What does a session look like?

  • A session lasts 90 minutes and can take place when is most convenient to you, whether this be a lunchtime session, after work or during office hours. We also offer day sessions and residencies.
  • Writers deliver the creative workshop.
  • Participants imagine, write, collaborate, create and enjoy using words.
