Playwrights Studio, Scotland
The Playwrights' Studio, Scotland is a new initiative designed to celebrate,
promote and develop Scotland's rich and growing culture of writing for
live performance. It aims to secure a future for playwrights and their
work by improving and sustaining artistic quality, raising awareness, and
increasing opportunities and access.
Playwright Tom McGrath initially developed the concept of a playwrights’ studio for Scotland. In 2001 the Scottish Arts Council appointed Faith Liddell to research the need for this organisation and after contacting over 66 playwrights and other theatre professionals unanimous support for a playwrights’ studio was confirmed. In response to these findings the SAC awarded funding and support to establish the Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland.
