Theatre and Beyond brings together writers, directors, actors, digital artists, film makers, young people and technicians to work in an integrated way. TAB present the cutting edge of new writing, work in the raw, and drama that isn't scared of intelligence or depth.
Formed in October 1998 by Maria Pattinson, Anita Parry and Peter Ellis, TAB was born from a desire to create new drama utilising the talents of the many artists living in the South East region, who, through lack of opportunity locally, travel to work in London. The aim is to bring individual artists together to work with the best new writing and technology in the theatre.
Recent successes include a Playwrights Slam. For this special event, the company select 8 writers who are willing to experiment with their work and would like to try something out away from the pressures of a commission. There are no limits on form or content. The Slams are the first rung on our ladder of development that leads to eventual production. An informal evening where playwrights get a chance to showcase "raw" work in front of an audience. Four 10 minute segments are read by actors from the resident company each evening, and the audience votes for the most promising piece. The event is a fresh way of presenting new writing "hot off the page"and is fun and accessible for audiences.
