PURSUED BY A BEAR was established in 1999 by director Stuart Mullins, writer Craig Baxter and actor Joseph Millson, to produce work by new and emerging stage writers. Now run by Alex Clifton, Pursued By A Bear is a company that works with new and emerging playwrights, developing specific texts with them for production. Working predominantly with writers from marginalized minority communities in the UK, holding at their hearts in both theatrical process and product, a notion of community and participation. Their core audience is the non-traditional theatre-goer in London and the South East of England, to whom they offer affordable and accessible artistic excellence.
Pursued By A Bear's aims are:
- To offer affordable artistic excellence
- To produce a dynamic programme of new work
- To support and develop the work of emerging theatre artists
- To explore the multi-cultural identity of the United Kingdom , particularly through its marginalized minority communities
- To promote the theatre arts in the South East
- To expand and diversify the South East's theatre audience
- To encourage social inclusion and regeneration through participatory arts programmes
