Previous Projects

Some wonderful work's been going on!

Children's Book Week
Two writers, Helen Nelder and Chrissy Harmar-Brown, were in residence at St Bedes School during
Children's Book Week. Helen worked with the youngest students (ages 4-6) while Chrissy spent four days
with students in Years 7 and 8. Both writers tackled the school's theme for the week of journeys, and some
amazing work was produced.

National Poetry Day
Our writers were all over the region for National Poetry Day. Thanks to an initiative by Robyn Steer at Patcham High,
writers ran poetry workshops at four Brighton primary schools. Andrew G Marshall visited Patcham Juniors and
Carden; Helen Nelder did poetry at Coldean, and Jo Smith visited Westdene.

Performance poet Paul Lyalls spent the day at Eastbourne Technology College where he proved very popular:
the teachers described his sessions as 'amazing' and said he was a superb role model for literacy, particularly
for boys.

And Chrissy Harmar-Brown did a poetry session at Silverdale Out of School Club, where they all had a go at writing their own poems.

Other projects
During half-term, Carolyn Thomas and Paul Lyalls each spent a day running workshops at a young people's festival
in Aldershot. Carolyn worked with 12-25 year olds on writing short fiction, while Paul ran two sessions on tv script-
writing.

Paul Lyalls has been particularly busy: he also ran some sessions at a well-attended INSET day for teachers from
five schools in Bracknall. Paul's sessions were on ideas for fizzing up literacy in the classroom.
