Self-Publish and be Damned: Does it really have to be that way?
- Working on your first novel?
- Have three manuscripts hidden under your bed?
- Just setting out on the road to publication?
- Been rejected by every publisher and agent you have ever approached?
If you answered yes to any (or all!) of the above then the possibility of self-publishing will almost certainly have crossed your mind. But is it for you?
In this session, publisher Clare Christian gives you a real insight into the self-publishing industry; how it works, what you need to consider, whether it is for you and what you can expect at the end of it. Clare has spent the last fourteen years publishing other people’s books and self-published her own in 2004. Packed with information and advice and concluding with a Q&A session you will leave this session with a much clearer picture of self-publishing.
Clare Christian has worked in publishing for many years
and after developing and managing successful lists for a range of companies including Pearson, Hodder and Orion
she set up her own independent publishing company, The Friday Project. TFP specialised in scouting new talent from the Internet and published both fiction and non-fiction titles. Clare won the British Council/London Bookfair award for UK Young Publisher of the Year in 2007 and sold The Friday Project to HarperCollins in 2008. She is currently developing a non-fiction list for a large trade publisher.
