Script readers

Script readers are independent; recommended to New Writing South by agencies including The BBC New Writing Initiative, Soho Theatre, Bush Theatre, Writernet etc. Our current readers are:

Katie Davies
Katie Davies is a script editor based in Ireland. Following an MA in Producing Film and Television at Royal Holloway, Katie worked for Kudos Film & Television reading scripts and assisting on various shows such as Spooks, Hustle and Life on Mars. Since leaving Kudos, Katie has researched on Holby City, and read scripts for the BBC Independent Drama department and Parallel Films. Katie is currently script editing The Clinic, a returning drama series for Parallel Films/RTE, in Dublin.

David Maxwell
David Maxwell is on the readers' panel at Soho Theatre and reads scripts for The Old Vic. He is currently studying for a MA in Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths College, and has had plays staged at the Etcetera Theatre (This is Not the Weather Report, August 2008) and Southwark Playhouse (The Way Home, work-in-progress, May 2008). David previously worked as an Assistant at The Agency, as Development Executive at Ken Sherman & Associates (a literary agency based in Los Angeles) and as a Researcher for TWI/BBC.

Daniel Kenny
Daniel Kenny graduated from Chester University with a Business degree in 2006. Completed the industry recognised Scrip Factory reader course in early 2007. Since then he has read and currently reading for regional agencies Scottish Screen, Northwest Vision and Media and UK Film Council, whilst also reading for the BBC. In addition to this he is also a keen writer, currently developing several feature screenplays.   

Dinos Aristidou
Dinos Aristidou has written and directed for the stage in the UK and overseas working with actors, young people, and members of the community. He was writer-in-residence at The Gateway in Chester for a year and a script develop and reader for North West Playwrights. He has recently written Orpheus, a new commission for the Nuffield Theatre and 18/6 for the Sherman Theatre. As Head of Education and Participation at The Sherman Theatre, he initiated and ran the new writing programme, developing writers and emerging artists. He is at present director/creator of a new piece at Watford Palace Theatre to celebrate their 100th birthday.

Rob Young
Rob Young has written feature screenplays for FilmFour, BBC Films and Working Title. His first film, Miranda, starred Christina Ricci and won the Audience Award at the Raindance Film Festival. He has also written for TV, radio, animation and theatre. He is currently working on a commission for Channel 4 and a feature for the actress Kristin Scott Thomas. "A fascinating playwright". Sara Clifford
Sara Clifford has been a script reader for Paines Plough, Soho Theatre and, most recently, the Red Room. She is was Literary Associate for Clean Break (02-03) and for the Dramatic Links project for Pop Up Theatre (2000). Previously a Drama Assessor for the Arts Council (new writing and theatre for young people), and for the London Arts Board; and a judge for the Arts Council Children’s Theatre Award ( 2001).

Nick Field
Nick Field has been a reader for Paines Plough, The Royal Court and Channel 4. He has also worked with BBC radio drama and been a Development Executive for SMG TV/ Ginger Productions. As a playwright he has had work staged at The Royal Court and Theatre Royal, Plymouth and he has just completed his first short film.

Tom King
Tom recently graduated with an MA in Dramaturgy from the Central School of Speech and Drama.  Since then he has been working as a freelance dramaturg and director.  Most recently as a director on a monthly series of new writing shows for the Common Air Theatre Company and Theatre 503 in Battersea.  As a script reader he has worked for the Royal Court Theatre on their Young Writer’s Programme.  His play ‘Family Ties’ was given a rehearsed reading at the Soho Theatre in February of last year.

Stephen Wyatt
Regular writer of Radio 4 drama and has written regularly for Doctor Who, Casualty, 16 plays produced including for West Yorkshire Playhouse, Hens & Chickens etc. Stephen has 30 years of teaching experience including workshops at Royal Court, script consultant, Arts Coucnil adviser, script reader for TV, Arvon Foundation and New Writing South.

Richard Edwards
Richard Edwards graduated from the MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia before going on to attend the Soho Theatre Young Writers Programme. Since then he has read scripts for the Southwark Playhouse and is currently reading for Hampstead Theatre. In addition to this, Richard has also taught scriptwriting workshops and has a background in film post-production.
