Postcards from the Seaside

Through flash fiction, prose poems, and writing fragments, you’ll explore personal, cultural and fictional stories about the sea in one of the most historic watering holes in Brighton, the Marlborough (circa.1791.)

You’ll also look at sea narratives and folklore from around the world - from selkies to mermaids, Mami Wata to Tangaroa - and create your own personal myths. Explore personal encounters with marine creatures, childhood memories, and dip into some better and lesser-known texts (The Sea, The Sea and The Middle Passage, for example) to discover new and original ways to write about the sea.
