Playwrights' Drawing Room

A nurturing, safe and inspiring space where a group of talented playwrights can flourish.

This unique six-month project offers playwrights the chance to belong to a supportive and nurturing workshop group. Based at Brighton’s Theatre Royal, the group will develop either a new play or work on an existing draft.

Each playwright will develop their own piece of drama, and draw inspiration and guidance from a clear and structured process.  You will explore premise, plot, structure, conflict, scene writing, pace, dialogue, entrances and exits. In addition there will be guest sessions from leading practitioners - actors, directors, set designers; a required reading list of plays and theatre visits. This project puts character at the heart of drama.

Playwrights will be expected to come to the first session with a starting point and will be supplied with a reading list.
