Do You Remember
the First Time?
Do You Remember the First Time is an event inspired by Queer Brighton, a photography exhibition at Lighthouse during Brighton Photo Biennial 2010 that invites members of the LGBT community and the wider population to share their memories and experiences of Pride and gay life in Brighton & Hove over the decades.
Facilitated by writer Shaun Levin, participants will be encouraged to contribute to an online archive that will include images and written documentation about their experiences. Everyone is welcome to bring along memories, swap stories and meet people!
Shaun Levin is the author, most recently, of Snapshots of The Boy, an exploration of the unseen stories in photographs. His first book, SEVEN SWEET THINGS, published originally in the UK in 2003, has just be re-issued in the USA by Lethe Press. His other books include A YEAR OF TWO SUMMERS and ISAAC ROSENBURG'S JOURNEY TO ARRAS: A MEDITATION. Shaun is also the founding editor of the international queer literary and arts journal, CHROMA.
Please note: It is hoped that this event will inform part of a bigger project, investigating and documenting the LGBT heritage of Brighton & Hove, recording and evidencing secret languages and hidden heritage. Proposed partners for this project are: New Writing South, Brighton Photo Biennial and Lighthouse with Brighton Ourstory and Allsorts Youth Project.
Please book to avoid disappointment. Email mark@newwritingsouth.com
