About the Course:
In this course, we explore essentials of the craft of screenplay writing. You
will learn the professional skills required to write in and for the film
industry and will be supported through the process of creating your own short
screenplay.
We will begin in term one (Module One) by developing screen ideas, looking at stories plots and narrative, themes and characterisation, leading to writing a premise of a short film. Then we look at visual style, the stages of screenplay writing, and will create a one page outline.
In the second term (Module Two), we look at scene writing in depth, three act structure, treatment writing, short films, and you will be guided through writing two drafts of an original short film. Finally we look at pitching and next steps. Throughout we analyse scripts and films to develop critical sense.
The emphasis throughout is upon developing an individual voice and a confident style whilst working in a supported environment on line.
In addition to tutor feedback, you will be encouraged to discuss one another’s writing in course forums and will be given advice on offering constructive and useful criticism.
Dates:
This course consists of two modules. Each module consists of ten
lessons.
Module 1 is open from 6 October 2008
Module 2 is open from 19 January 2009
Students must complete each lesson in order to move onto the next lesson, there is one week to complete each lesson. Students must complete each module in order to move onto the next module, they will have a total of ten weeks to complete each module.
As soon as you register you will be able to access your readling list and watching list.
Your first weekly lesson will be available on-line 6 October 2008 and the course will finish in April 2009.
